My Competitive Side

Three months ago I entered a short story competition with Writer’s Digest. It was Paranormal Paws, actually, in case you want to read it! I wrote the story quick enough, and it came out fine, but when I was about to submit it I wondered if it was really worth it. There was an entry fee to pay and I didn’t think I would win. So I told my mom I was thinking about not entering after all. My mom asked me why and when I told her she said something to me that I’ll never forget.

“Regardless if you win or not, you’re putting yourself out there. And that’s worth the thirty dollars.”

Ah. Moms are the best. So I entered, and I’ll find out who wins first place on February 28th. (Which happens to land on my grandmother’s birthday!)

Sometimes I go days and days without ever thinking about the competition, but when I do, I can’t help but daydream about how wonderful it would be if I won…!

     Bye for now!
